That's silly like the British market was going to yield so much revenue from magazines , Especially considering the US was the mecca for bodybuilding and it was niche market and even more so in the UK. It defies logic , Shawn Ray was on more magazine covers than Dorian by far. If Joe Weider was going to hand pick people to win he's be an idiot not to pick Lee Labrada, Handsome , articulate , College educated married family man with an " attainable " physique much more marketable than a pasty Brit who was a  " skinhead " and disappeared back to the UK after every contest.

I didn't notice it, but you're right.  His left lat is noticeably smaller than his right lat, and the same goes for his pecs.  He must have goofed at the gym.  What injury causes this?  Shoulder?

I think Weider did make Dorian remove the skin tattoo on his forearm, and was questioning him, asking if he was an antisemite and so on. Well, Dorian turned out to be some kind of "antisemite" after his career, to his credit IMO.

I think marketing did come in for his decision to sponsor him, give him a contract. My guess is Joe was influenced a lot by Peter McGough. Despite him being a non-show most of the year he became a fan favorite at least. And he became a favorite on the podcaster circuit, despite his controversial views regarding you-know-who. He must be personable enough I guess, despite not being a loud mouth.

The SKIN tattoo on his knuckles he removed I believe after his 1992 Olympia win. The other was the My England tattoo with the Bulldog & red boot which he doesn't have anymore either but did that after he retired.

Funny you mention mentioned cutler in 1999. I went to that Olympia prejudging. Went with a few of the writers from Musclemag (if you’re old and remember musclemag). We all sat and critiqued. To a person, everyone was freaked out by cutler. And every single one also said “he’s awesome but he won’t place because there’s always one freak that has to pay his dues”. That was cutler thst year. He was absolutely impressive. And also there was no way any judge was going to care. His time as we all know came soon enough anyway. I always thought his 1999 showing and conditioning never got enough props. But no one cared; it was the halcyon days of wheeler/coleman/cormier, with a withering levrone, el sonbaty and ray thrown in for good measure.

I liken it to how Dexter Jackson should have placed higher earlier on in his career, but those were the days of “pay your dues”. Whatever that’s worth.

99 Olympia was Dexter's debut as well and his fellow pros commented on Dex making the rookie mistake of not using enough oil and not looking as sharp as he really was, Dex placed 9th and Jay 15th out of 16!

Dorian was a breath of fresh air in the Bodybuilding Scene .. he was massive, unique compared to the standard yank ..rags to Glory story.

Not all Skins were racist & i´ve never seen a picture of tattoos on his knuckles, if he did it would´ve been four dots ..meaning "the pigs are Bastards" this was a tattoo ( home made indian ink) i saw often in the 70s & early 80s
His Tattoos were a British Bulldog & UK flag & a Doc Martin Boot, which a lot of guys wore myself included or Monkey Boots.

Hes so overated. Shit arms, shit chest. By contest time, the legs will come down in size and be overpowered by his upper body. He's got a great back. Cool. His BDB isnt even dominating. I think  Walker's is better when you take into account Nick's hamstrings. His abs are weak and shallow too. Thats why he always hit a vac in the ab and thighs pose. Whats the fascination with him? He has a smaller waist? Its not even crazy small. It was when he was a 212 guy but the size he put on for Open grew it quite a bit. I'd rather Samson win the Olympia since hes not a midget.
