I used to get a laugh out of people who said Ronnie couldn't be dumb because he "earned" an accounting degree from the illustrious Grambling State University.
Uhh...it's a black college. And it's a football powerhouse for what it is.
Ronnie went there on a football scholarship IIRC. Any9one who has attended any university, black or, well, a generally recognized institution, will tell you that the athletes basically have a free ride.
I've seen it countless times at my alma mater. The basketball team guys were given the answers to an exam days before we regs had to take the test. My dentist saw the same thing when he was a senior at Chapel Hill...curiously, though half of one of his courses was filled with athletes, my guy noticed they were conspicuously absent more often than not.
More curious still, when test grades were posted, my dentist pal noticed that the largely absentee athletes managed to match, and sometimes even top his exam scores!
They were passed through. Ronnie was the same. I like him and remain in awe of what he achieved some years (I still say his form at the 2001 ASC was probably tops..maybe three or four guys in history could stand next to that onstage and not look out of place), but smart?!
