Know somebody who worked with him in 1997, he was in bad shape. Guess the worst period he is referring to was 1997 - 2010 when Stallone gave him the break. Hope he is doing Ok. Most of us can keep our demons at bay but he was unable during that period.

Really wrecked himself.

In a recent pic coming out of his apartment door the place looks pretty low rent.

I really need to wear my reading glasses. At first glance, I thought the subject said "Silicone saved Mickey Rourke".  ???

It's a shame after Iron Man 2 (2010) he did not do anything of note, either commercially or critically successful. Went into the straight-to-DVD market just to pay the bills I guess.

There probably aren't too many roles left for him with that face.

He looked ok in Iron Man 2, "age-appropriate" as they say, maybe a bit younger.

I think it's a combination of his ageing and maybe he never quite shook off his crazy reputation. Making movies can be very hard work, nobody wants to deal with crazy people on the set

Imagine if he managed to keep his looks from around Angel Heart / Johnny Handsome, maybe even Harley Davidson and the Malboro man, but his 80s-look for sure.

Too much drugs and plastic surgery

1993-1994 is generally considered the down turn looks wise for him.

That's the point where he really started to dive into plastic surgery to try and fix the boxing damage.

it wasn´t " Boxing Damage" it was mental issues, he was a loose cannon & also a filthy terrorist supporter ( IRA ).

Didn't he have several high paying roles in his career?

He should have invested his money...

He did, but during his best earning years, he did odd things like giving $1.5-2 million dollars to the IRA, which killed his box office in England for many years. Another big one was trying to buy and hold a mega mansion in Beverly Hills (He loves living like old Hollywood), which at one point had him taking any role to keep afloat. Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man is a famous one from this time, he hates that film, but it bought him a little more time in that house.

He also turned down the role of Butch in Pulp Fiction a year or so later.

Now, he supposedly doesn't get paid much for Hollywood work, but does it at a lower price to bump up his pay on those B and direct to video films. For instance, he only reportedly got paid $400,000 for IronMan 2, and was only offered $250,000. He's also a loose cannnon on the films, for instance, he shitted on IronMan a bit after it came out.

I remember that, saying Jon Favreau doesn't have balls. Which may be true but why broadcast your opinion to the whole world.
