Men have married wealthy women to get their money or their status. This was very common with women who had inherited money.

Nowadays with women becoming successful we might see men marrying up to them. A plumber marrying a woman attorney or doctor for example.
As to what women want it is the same. Either they want to marry up or they may accept a man who is lower social status.
Some super successful women go the boy-toy route like Madonna.
For successful women there are not many men to marry up to.
A woman lawyer has to find a male lawyer or doctor to marry for example if they want to marry up or at least keep it level.
Most men want a good looking woman too. Woman practicing hypergamy are more into the money, status game.
