The first post is a interpretation of a quote by Admiral Yamamoto that came out post WWII, the actual quote is - "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." . Yamamoto was a fan of the US, and spent time here during the 20s, 30s, studying and as a diplomat. He was also the main decision maker for the Pearl Harbor attack.

Before Pearl Harbor, he wrote the following -

"Should hostilities once break out between Japan and the United States, it would not be enough that we take Guam and the Philippines, nor even Hawaii and San Francisco. To make victory certain, we would have to march into Washington and dictate the terms of peace in the White House. I wonder if our politicians (who speak so lightly of a Japanese-American war) have confidence as to the final outcome and are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices"

After Pearl Harbor, he more or less knew the war was probably unwinnable, stating -

 "I shall run wild considerably for the first six months or a year, but I have utterly no confidence for the second and third years." .

His whole plan wasn't for invasion, but to knock the US out of the Pacific long enough to build up Japanese resistance there, and secure raw materials, mainly oil. With the Pacific under a strong Japanese influence, he was hoping that the US would be willing to explore a peace treaty.

Are you aware Japan was facing severe oil shortages already in 1941? And that's excluding the costs, manpower and resources needed to maintain the occupied territories across China, South-East Asia and the Pacific.

Even if they wanted to invade the US, they did not have the resources or capabilities, so it was not possible.
