What's interesting is that even Trump just said Hamas has now sort of been allowed by the US and Israel to sort of keep order in Gaza, for a period of time, so crime doesn't skyrocket and some order is kept. Max Blumenthal says Hamas has been "let" perform these functions throughout the years. Besides, Hamas was empowered by Israel when it first started out, some say it was an outright Israeli creation, opposing PLO or whatever. All I'm saying is things aren't totally black and white, alliances shift. Lately Israel has been arming ISIS linked groups in Gaza to oppose Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed that Israel is arming clans in Gaza that he says are opposed to Hamas.

His comments came after Israeli media reports quoted defence sources as saying Netanyahu had authorised giving weapons to one particular group in the south of Gaza.

Several Israeli politicians have accused Netanyahu of endangering Israeli security.

It may be this temporary peace was accomplished due to Israeli overreach when they bombed Qatar. Trump actually forced Netanyahu to apologize to Qatar. It's almost as if Israel bombed the US, seeing as the biggest US military base is in Qatar and the US was guarantor for the safe Hamas-Israel talks there. So now Trump had some leverage on Bibi.

Yes. Just the hostage exchange. IMO the other terms were ridiculous as there is zero agreement and they are unworkable. "The US acknowledges the 'aspirations' of Palestinians for a state" whatever that's supposed to mean. Bibi has said there's never going to be a Palestinian state and the US will go along with that, even though the official line of the US has been a two state solution.

I thought he's been called Bibi forever, but I might be mistaken. I've used Bibi because I see it all the time, Trump uses it. I like the Satanyahu nickname. I haven't watched the coverage. Which side had the healthiest prisoners? I'm sure a lot of the Palestinians were tortured and anal raped; Hamas probably had an interest in keeping their prisoners "healthy" and alive as they were their bargaining chips and extremely valuable, but I could be wrong. Earlier released Israeli, or for example the Thai captives said they got meat once a week and otherwise it wasn't much but it was most likely due to there not being any food for anyone.

Just the same, it’s hopeful. A thousand steps ahead of where we were. I like the idea of technocrats being in charge of problematic Gaza with the US and Arab neighbors helping out and making sure that Gaza stays in line. As for the West Bank, my own view (an idealistic one) is not for the “aspirational state” that many say Israel will not tolerate, but something that may be an even taller challenge for Israel: one nation of Greater Israel folding together current Israel together with the West Bank (but not Gaza), a fully democratic nation with equal rights for all. My own estimate is that the consolidated Israel might be roughly two thirds Jewish to one third to 40 percent Arab. So it would be a “kind of Jewish state” but would keep everybody together where they wish to live. Big dream, but stranger things have happened.
