Don't you miss it, though? The feel of the weight in your hands, the way the rubber-coated weights smell and sound, the sensation of getting a strong biceps or shoulder pump? Even the sci-fi-inspired look of those weird nautilus machines?
There are some guys who are genetically cursed and really can't gain muscle (even on the juice, lol,) but I still see them in the gym all the time, and I think I understand: It's just fun. It doesn't need to be something that seems "rewarding" to outside observers.
I think I'm gonna keep doing it for life, purely for personal enjoyment, even when I get too old to "look good," objectively speaking.
Going to the gym is still like Christmas Eve for me, especially since I can still get a pump and strength is ok. Since I've been sick a lot the past few years and had periods where I couldn't lift I have extra appreciation for actually being able to use my body. It's one thing not wanting to train but another wanting to train and not being able to. I can't train everything optimally due to injuries sometimes but like yesterday I went in and just did forearms and it was great LOL. I've always been sad I didn't have competitive bodybuilding genes since that would have been my thing. I have lots of psych issues and it's amazing what a good workout does to my mental state. Weird thing to notice maybe, but even my handwriting changes, my speech gets more relaxed and more fluent LOL.
