A completely ridiculous stacked HW class (not in the pic because they finished outside the top 5 for the HW finals were Cicherillo, Chris Cormier and Edgar Fletch). And waiting in the wings in another year were Dennis Newman and Mike Francois. Just nuts.

Lest we forget, the LHW class was stacked too in 91. Porter Cottrell won his Pro Card, beating future pros Daryl Stafford, John Simmons, John Sherman, and shoulda-been-pro-Beau-Matlock.

When Levrone hit the scene, Haney said that Levrone would dominate the sport. Haney also felt that Vince Taylor would be up there too.

Levrone showed up: destroyed Mohammed Beneziza, Vince Taylor, Lee Labrada, and Shawn Ray.  Only Yates could stop him.


Levrone would shock peywith those early visits to Los Angeles, Levrone was an unknown freak.

I know its different lighting and all...but to my eye, Wheeler is more aesthetically proportioned (and a tad more conditioned) than Levrone. A prime Wheeler beats a prime Levrone, always (my opinion). Maybe the judges didn't always see it that way, but that's opinions for you.

The above said, I can't see either of those two guys, in those conditions, beating the version of Haney beside them in the pic. Haney has a shorter torso, which conveys a more extreme X-frame (when compared to Levrone). Haney's lats and small waist just overwhelm Levrone. And though Levrone has ridiculous arms, because of their shape, they don't seem to compare extremely favorably to Haney (though they do beat his). I see Haney beating Levrone in this pose easily.

I also see Haney beating Wheeler. Wheeler's arms really do beat Haney handily. And Wheeler's midsection gives no ground to Haney. But Haney annihilates Wheeler in chest width and thickness, hits lats do likewise, and Haney's natural clavicular width makes Wheeler look narrow. This one is closer, but Haney still wins the pose.
