Yes, funk. There is a big difference between a misdemeanor and a felony. It's a matter of degree to everyone - especially the legal system.
But this summary could help you if you spend time to read it:
Trump paid hush money to Stormy Daniels in 2016 which is neither a felony, nor a misdemeanor.
Michael Cohen facilitated the transfer. Trump paid Cohen to reimburse him in 2017.
For record keeping, it was tagged as a legal expense, not reimbursement of a debt. This is determined by NY law as a misdemeanor.
But the statute of limitations had expired. Alvin Bragg (who ran his campaign on "getting Trump" then cobbled it together and redefined the misdemeanor to be a felony, citing Trump used it to violate Federal Campaign finance laws. This extended the statute of limitations.
Now, mind you, the trial was fraught with issues. But it doesn't matter, because the felony tag is there, and the more mindless, simple folks use it like it's some sort of justification of Trump being an illegitmate President.
Thinking folks take Trump out of it, and are very concerned that our judicial system could be weaponized to create a crime to fit the man.
