1st season definitely, 8.5-9/10
3rd was very good, 7/10
2nd was okish.
4th I did not finish.

you can watch them as stand alone seasons no problem.

Season 1 definitely, one of the best TV series ever
Season 2 is let's say an "acquired taste", but it had big shoes to fill and was a bit rushed
Season 3 tried to go Season 1-lite. Worth a watch if nothing else to do

Season 4 is woke girl power gutter trash.

The first season was amazing. I had been reading this fairly little known horror writer named Thomas Ligotti and immediately picked up where some of the inspiration came from, which they later acknowledged.

I think the 1st season of True Detective and the 1st season of Fargo are as good as any season of any show in history.
