Jews like to cite scripture like the Torah to defend their right to the land even if they are atheist. As far as I know most Israelis are atheist, at least according to the polls I've seen cited.

That is just such a stupid statement.   95% of all Muslims and Jews are peaceful groups.   Have you ever gone to Israel, see just how modern things are, much more than other countries by far. What about Qatar, or Dubai?  You have a radical fringe of Islamic people who just would like to destroy Israel, America and anything related to Western influence.  Sadly, not going to happen, because most of the people out there have not has brainwashed or believe that propaganda out there.   Even Palestinians want peace, but can't even say it for fear of retribution from Hamas and other radicals.    Israel will be there for centuries to come.  Hamas, Iran Radicals and others will be gone within a few years.  Technology is forcing thier hands now.
