Too bad it seems a shitty film was made where a great one could be.

I’ll pass on this one..

Popular consensus is that it’s a good movie.  What makes you think it was a shitty movie ???

The fact that every movie maker hopes to make an epic movie and in maybe 99% of cases the end result isn't an epic movie should tell you something.

Even Nolans strike rate is well below 25%

It the same as if Peter Jackson said he was going to make God of War, Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy, etc.....I would go in hoping/expecting something epic.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Nolan+The Odyssey to be epic.

Either way, it's all subjective.

had too much sand

However, back to The Odyssey, I was unaware Nolan did not use CGI, so that changes my perspective on some things and how they appeared.  Pretty amazing from that context.

What about Korean Will Yun Lee as a Greek warrior? :D

It's just very fucking sunny on the Mediterranean, alright?

Putting Travis Scott in this movie was certainly... a decision  ??? ::)

The Indian guy ended up with the most screen time out of the diversity casting, and to be fair, he actually did a solid job.
He/she Ellen page and Zendaya are basically glorified cameos.
Tom Holland is a total wimp
Robert Pattinson gets a handful of lines and nothing else to do.
Charlize Theron is excellent, but criminally underused.
Anne Hathaway reminds everyone of her acting skills
Jon Bernthal once again gets wasted in a role that barely lets him do anything.
John Leguizamo absolutely steals every scene he's in. Every time he shows up, the movie feels noticeably better.

Matt Damon is... fine. He gets the job done, but I couldn't shake the feeling someone else could've elevated the role.

My biggest issue isn't even the casting—it's the performances. For a story that's supposed to feel grand, mythic, and larger than life, almost everyone acts like they're trying not to wake the neighbors.
The entire cast feels oddly restrained and low-energy. Hathaway, Pattinson, and Leguizamo are the only ones who consistently bring some life to the screen. Everyone else—including Damon—feels like they're operating at about 60%.

Then there's Nolan's trademark time-hopping. The constant jumps backward and forward in the narrative eventually become more distracting than clever.
The sound mixing is classic Nolan too.... the music bulldozes over the dialogue half the time.

And don't even get me started on the dialogue itself....The English sounds far too modern, stripped of any sense of the period. It constantly pulls you out of the world.
But then again, Nolan takes liberties with just about everything here—the characters, the ships, the creatures, and the mythology—so I suppose the dialogue fits right in.

It's Visually impressive and packed with talent, but the performances never match the scale of the story.

6.5/10.

Pretty much spot on how I feel outside of maybe overstating Theron's performance, but that's nitpicking.
