I don't know what will happen but there might be an attack shortly by the U.S. Perhaps jointly with Israel. I suspect perhaps another decapitation strike against the current leadership. I don't see the U.S. calling it quits and even if it wants to Israel will pull it back in. Israel already said they will go at it alone if it needs to. The alone part is a lie.

And leaving would mean leaving Iran's nuclear program alone and basically accepting that Iran will become a nuclear armed state. This is a red line according to Trump. The generals have advised Trump that solving that issue can only be done by physically removing the nuclear material. Prof. Robert Pape, who is a heavyweight and widely respected, puts the odds of limited ground operations in the fall at 7/10. Leaving would mean Iran will become the ME hegemon.

I wouldn't count on it.  He has been elected or appointed to serve as Prime Minister of Israel across six distinct terms. He won national elections or formed governments in 1996, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2020, and 2022.


By contrast - Vladimir Putin has been elected president five times (in 2000, 2004, 2012, 2018, and 2024).

Im not very familiar with Israeli politics but my understanding is the candidate most likely to replace Netanyahu is even more extreme.  So I don’t think it would end if Bibi got voted out.

In other news, things aren’t going very well for our Navy:

Interviews with active-duty sailors and family members, along with dozens of public social media comments and posts by crew members, describe sailors struggling with exhaustion and declining morale, including reports of suicidal thoughts and at least one instance where a crew member was prevented from jumping overboard.

The concerns come during an unusually demanding deployment — Lincoln sailors have supported 40 days of continuous combat operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations and logged 250 consecutive days at sea, according to Navy officials.

The aircraft carrier left San Diego in November for a Pacific deployment, was redirected to the Middle East and has now been deployed for more than eight months, including a record-breaking number of days at sea without a port stop.  Its crew has spent much of that time supporting U.S. combat operations against Iran, and the deployment, which was anticipated to end in May, has been extended with no publicly announced return date.

I wish my grandad was still alive so I could ask him how long he was out for his longest deployment in World War Two. Mofo was in Leyte Gulf and all over the pacific, not sure if they stopped and had breaks or not but I know his carrier was hit with a kamikaze. I’d say this generation may be a bit softer, although I never served so I can’t speak on how I’d act and feel. I think we’ve got is so good nowadays that it cripples us in situations like these.
