i´m guessing he had a partner in the room who just handed him his/her pistol ..
correct procedure as i was tought would be for the person handing him the weapon to "Unload" the weapon, pull back the working parts & show HIM it is clear, no magazine fitted & no round in the chamber then fire it off safely.

Fact is a pistol was loaded with a live mag in a classroom

Side Note: I was tought to unload any weapon before entering a building

On this site, several years ago, there was a YouTube video of a man who was teaching kids to shoot AR-15 style weapons. I could be wrong about the exact weapon.

A young girl aimed a weapon at a target and started shooting. She got spun in the direction of the instructor and she continued to pull the trigger. She shot and killed him.

3. Go into slide lock

4. Do a physical and visual inspection of the chamber and see if you can see straight through the mag well (pistol)

5. Release the slide

6. Pull the trigger and drop the hammer?

It has happened that especially when on shooting ranges a round can be lodged in the barrel, therefore if there's a stoppage or clearing a weapon I always looked to check.

In a firearms or military context, "one up the spout" means having a live round chambered in the barrel of a weapon, making it ready to fire instantly. It allows for an additional round beyond the magazine's standard capacity (e.g., 15 in the magazine + 1 in the chamber).1. Tactical SignificanceInstant Readiness: The primary advantage is speed. Not once ever did I claim to train people FOR the military. I get some infantry members that come through because they’re not proficient with a side arm because they work mostly with rifles.
