I doubt he missed ALL of them.
The attacker/son eventually fell. So the untrained observer naturally assumes it was only the final shot that felled him. Which is not true.
If he hit him multiple times close to center mass and hit lung tissue, the guy could stand there and keep swinging until he bleeds enough to drop. Which is especially true is the guy is on some crazy cocktail of drugs or in psychosis or excited delerium. Maybe some of the rounds hit soft tissues around the abdomen.
Its not like the movies where you shoot someone once and they fly backwards 20 feet yelling out a blood curddling scream. Plenty of times people are shot in non vital organs and don't even realize until their adrenaline comes down.
