Even my Jew friend said the exact same thing to me years ago. Later he's been sounding just a little bit different, which is understandable. In the beginning stages of the Israeli retaliation for Oct 7 he asked what I thought about it. I said what Israel is doing is unconscionable. "But what the Palestinians did wasn't right either." I said I agree, and I meant it. I talked about how the Oct 7 attack played into Israeli hands, how it was very beneficial for their long term goals. He didn't try to rebut me.
