Dorians actual volume averaged 8 to 10 total sets for Chest, 13 to 16 sets for Back, 6 to 7 sets for Shoulders, 6 sets for Triceps, 5 sets for Biceps, 8 sets for Quadriceps, 5 to 6 sets for Hamstrings, and 3 to 5 sets for Calves
Using Gemini deep research. I wouldn't call that low volume
The most volume was his back, and his back was his best bodypart
Dorian (according to his book) did 1-2 sets of each exercise.
So, for chest he would do 3-4 exercises per bodypart, 2 sets each, once a week. 6-8 sets a week total.
Yes, he usually did one or two warmup sets per exercise as needed.
This is much less volume than what typical top bodybuilders like Arnold did.
They would do 20-25 sets per bodypart, two or even three times a week. 40-70+ sets per week.
Even if they only trained a bodypart once a week that would still be 20-25 sets vs. 6-8 sets like Dorian.
Dorian burned the calories not expended by long workouts by doing cardio. Blasphemy!

Back in the late 70s/early 80s we did 20-25 sets per bodypart over 4-5 exercises at least twice a week.
So, 40-50 sets a week per bodypart.
And these were hard sets close to positive failure, occasional forced reps.
We would have thought it impossible to get results doing 6-10 sets a week.
Lately, I've been doing only two sets per exercise, 2-4 exercises per bodypart.
I like it and the workouts don't take 2+hours like if you did 20 sets.
Does it work?
For me at this point in life it is acceptable.
