You're too young to have been featured in that magazine.

No, the MD cover you scanned...that issue. Not Muscle Digest...you got me confused with the other guy.

the only mag I dug out was the Dec 81 Muscle Digest.   all the magazine covers from my site were scanned many years ago.

He was awesome in the 1981 Mr. America and then that was it. he was never that good again. he became blocky, got gyno and it was over.

Tim dieted from around 240 all the way down to 191 for his Mr. America win and he looked better at that lighter weight.

There were photos of him in M&F before he won Mr. America and he looked very different, bigger and with a very bloated face, maybe from his diabetes, I dunno?

Belknap was a great bodybuilder and the first to say he used insulin, this because he is a diabetic.
In the late nineties he had a heart surgery and almost died.
One of the driest bodybuilders of al time.

Good thickness & pretty good density, though dryness was more common then.

Then as now, also fairly forgettable.

So that explains why there's a thread about him 25 years later...

Belknap was a sensation when he burst on the scene in 1980 or so!  He was 5'4" or shorter, not sure exactly.  Tim had the best legs since Platz and a split in his chest reminiscent of Franco Columbu.  He beat Rory Leidelmeyer in the LHW class and beat Lance Dreher (HW) for the overall at the 1981 Mr. America.

I saw the contest on HBO, back when they used to cover the Mr. America.  Those days are long gone now.

Belknap couldn't ever win his class at the IFBB Worlds but fared better in NABBA competition.

I wonder what Rory would have done in the IFBB? He was very, very good.
