Is the internet actually good for the sport?
« on: May 16, 2006, 06:58:17 PM »
I know I haven't spent a penny on tickets, magazines, videos for at least the past 5 years yet i'm more up to date than i've ever been.

Has everything we get for FREE from the net killed the sport?

Less dollars coming in (mags/tickets) must be making it harder and harder for them to spend it on the shows and athletes...

It would be even worse without the internet. Where and how would the PRO`s coordinate their deals and cycles?

The intnet and message boards COULD have been a huge help to bodybuilding, but it has had the opposite effect. Why? Most come on these sites just to get a rise , stay in the shadows and never do anything constructive for our sport.

The internet is great for bodybuilding, because now the money being made from the industry as a whole isn't being made by only a few people.

what big $$$$$? serious???
I don't see any bodybuilding companies going public with a weekly new IPO?
Failure to get TV contracts and major corperate sponsers have hurt the real bucks that could be made.
It is a  simple case of the fast internet nickel for a brief time or the slow steady dollar and future growth

easier access to info is always beneficial. i'm sure supplement cos. and shippers w a decent product are also benefiting and will increasingly continue to do so. they might channel some of their gains to the "athletes."

athletes probably receive more exposure too . . . odds are we'd never have heard of the great Sami al-hadad and mo elbuffooni otherwise.

the internet has undoubtedly helped escalate gay4pay and Joanna Thomas-type entrepreneurial activity . . . maybe the bbs can directly benefit from this in ways previously not possible.

So that's why there are now 15 "special" 6 page muscletech ad reports in every bodybuilding rag that I pick up... to make up for the losses from the internet... kind of like the RIAA / MP3 thing...

Great post! Magazine sales are down and I doubt the internet has helped supplement companies much.
