Rude Questions People Ask Me
« on: May 24, 2006, 05:32:17 AM »
I am a national level bodybuilder, but I am not by any means a "mass monster" I compete as a middleweight/welterweight, and I'm 5'5.... yet people are always walking up asking me questions about steriods.

What if I walked up to every out of shape person in the gym and asked: "do you eat alot of gravy"... oh I'm sorry I just assumed you couldn't get THAT out of shape unless you drank gravy all the time. I would be an asshole right.... or If I walked up to some obviously weak guy who was struggling with minimal weight and asked him if he was talking estrogen pills.... oh I'm sorry I just assumed that you could not have been so weak naturally.

People think that there is nothing more to it than taking a shot in the ass and working out every once in awhile. They don't see competitors doing two hours of cardio 6 days a week or eating 8 meal a day that taste like fucking cardboard or working out to the point of projectile vommiting..I own a personal training studio and work with clients 10-12 hours a day, and then have to get in two hours of cardio+weight training+8 solid meals.

I wake up at 4 a.m. every day and finish my day around 8p.m. The average person could not handle this for 1 week, yet they still assume it's nothing more than taking a little juice that seperates you from them.

I have been asked the same question many times, some from out of shape recreational lifters and other hard core people.

If anything I think it is a compliment that they think I have a physique that rivals steroid users....

Take it positively....Just look at them and say, all natural, 100% dedicated!!

A gym manager where i worked once asked a pretty big guy what he was using after his workouts, trying to sell him some protein or cell tech or something

he just said

"Steroids" and walked out

she then pretended to do some paperwork

The stupid inbreeds that make the comments you stated are just justifying there own self defeat in life cause they either lack the willpower to achieve something greater than polishing off a box of 4 dozen powder doughnuts or stating that everyone that achieves something great in life cheated!!!

they ask you about steroids cause steroids are illegal and food is not..simple..it aint fair but quit whining..

as for eating cardboard..no ones putting a fucking gun to your head to eat food that tastes like cardboard...

it IS the jyuice that seperates me from them at least..yanno i eat like crap most of the time..and train like a wuss...its only when i'm juicing is when my training steps up and when i see quick results..guess what..i start eating stuff that tastes like cardboard with a smile..JUICE MAKES IT EASIER...

its easier to make quick gains and then fall into a strict diet than be natural and make slow gains while following a strict diet..

You make a great point. I can relate to you a lot, not in terms of height or weight (I am taller and bigger) but with what you are thinking / feeling. Unfortunately, the general public seems to be clueless when it comes to gauging a person's (relative) size and strength levels and this is most probably due to how few guys there are out there that are really built.  The average person seems to have a certain cut -off point, sometimes as low as someone being over 190 or 200 lbs (for guys under 5'10). Anyone bigger than that, having a pair of 18" arms or above is 'on steroids'  ::)

I train in a University gym which is pretty good - they let you use chalk, the power racks are empty most of the times (except when some moron does quarter squats with a 45 lb plate on each side, but that's another story altogether) and they let you do your thing. I myself train the old-school way - basic, heavy free-weight compound movements with a bit of machines and cables thrown in at the end. The thing that gets to me is that how out of ALL the students and others who train (if it can be called that), apart from myself and a couple of other powerlifters, NO ONE has the slightest inkling of what hard work is.

Most of the students think that the reason they dont make gains is because they have an ineffective programme - oh brother  ::). They always do cables and machines and swiss ball stuff - anything that makes the workout easier. And they ALL TALK, ALL THE TIME - every f*cking one of them  >:(. I've got nothing against people doing what they want, but it does annoy me when they see me work my butt off and bring up the 'steroid' remark and the associated gestures - making an injecting symbol with their hands, shaking their heads etc (BTW, I am a natty 100 % 8))

I know that almost all of them are just plain mediocrities and the one thing they all have in common is the way they hate anyone with a passion (in this case, for lifting). You can tell they know they will never be able to match your passion and thus come up with every lame thing to try and make themselves feel better. Of course, I don't care what they think and in fact, take it as a compliment, but it would be good if people didn't try to undermine / negate your hard work - it's like you bust your butt and scored an A in an exam, only to have people say that you did that only because you cheated.

Just had to vent, sorry. And NPCOK - great to see you being focused on what you are doing mate. Keep it up. In the end, even if no-one understood / appreciated you, you know that you gained self-respect (and respect from guys like me) and trust me, all the adoration and appreciation of those mediocrities won't equal that  8)

Everything you said is right on the money.  I also like when someone sees my stretchmarks and thinks I must have been juicing to get them to that extent.  It never occurs to people that you actually can get some real size by heavy, basic training and eating to grow.

I think it is a very rude question if the person doesn't know me, I'm only going to talk about it if I know the person has already taken them before or a very close friend.  You have to remember they are very illegal, think about all the BS baseball players have gone through because someone they didn't know want them to tell them they took them.  I don't ever want to be a reason for someone to take steroids, and by them knowing that you take them that will make them think it is alright with no other thought put into it.

Flex Wheeler was pretty good with oneliners when strangers would come and ask him steroid questions.  "You do roids?" "You do crack?", "What do you bench" "I use the bench for presses!", "Are you on Deca? "Show me your tits" etc.

The reason most people have that response when they see someone who looks pretty good is because most people can't achieve that naturally.  The sport is so flooded with second rate drug users that it's only normal to assume most people are on with any substantial gains.  The majority of people who have ever trained do not have the dedication over time required to achieve much on a natural level, this is why you see gyms flooded with juiced up weekend warriors getting ready to go " clubbin' " for the summer.  It's not the average lame brain with comments of, "Are you on juice?" that ruin the sport, it's the obsurd drug usage throughout the industry that gives bodybuilding a bad rep.

A few months ago, while at a party, some assclown asked me, "So, how many steroids are you pumping in each arm?"  I hesistated and questioned the drunkeness of the individual, then remembered what it felt like to weigh 150lbs soaking wet.  I don't remember what I said at the time, but should have said, "Only one cycle in 1994 baby.  I've gotten some awesome mileage from it!  Up to 185 at the time from 160, then down to 150lbs.  Now here's the secret, stop lifting for a few years, smoke cigarettes, eat ice cream, then start back lifting and you'll go from 150lbs (2002) to 215lbs (2005) natural in a few years.  That's the secret to juicing...haha  You just can't compare drug gains with natural ones.  Anybody with $300 and a gym membership can gain 25lbs in a 2 months on gear, it's easy cause I've done it.

Same here. I hate all these clubfags juicing up for the summer. It's these 20something years olds, juiced to the gills to get some chicks that piss me off.

imo average or out of shape  people try to convince themselves that everyone who,s got a good build uses some sort of chemicals to acheive that body, its their way of feeling good about themselves coming up short of acheiving the body they want.if all it was was popping afew orals or sticking a needle in your ass then most dudes in the gym would look like jay or ronnie, diet combined with bust ass training is the base, the drugs do help but only in conjuction with the first 2 things i just mentioned.

So you do in fact use steroids right?

Wow,  natural and a national level bodybuilder..maybe for a natural organiization? Interesting..

At the same time, I agree with you its not just about gear. Ive seen many guys on gear and they dont impress me- They may be strong as hell, but to get the bodybuilder look, takes smart training, and knowing what and how much to eat, according to your body...
