We work as hard, spend as much.........We at the National level should get pay!

We are the future of the sport and we don't get recognise for it. There are more NPC athletes in the world then pro bodybuilders.

When did any IFBB pro start getting paid?Last I knew they only get "paid" if they spent tons of money themselves to prepare & win a bb'ing/fitness/figure competition.Besides that, only if they have guest appearances, sell pics at shows, Weider contract, etc. do they make any money.

Amateurs are supposedly never paid and if an amateur enters a contest in which a cash award is given, he is supposedly banned from future amateur contests. At least that is how it used to be done. I think that that rule is overlooked a bit today.

At one time even the value of trophies was restricted to a certain amount. But now such restrictions are simply overlooked or ignored or randomly enforced.

I think that the Olympics did a lot to screw this up, but I don't have the facts at present go into those details.

Great point. I attended FSU, one of the top Football Teams in the nation and these guys get nothing, or shall I say nothing that can be reported. All Collegiate athletes play with heart and some even harder and better than the pros...but not a dime.....

I know how you feel. I have spent-god knows how much money, and if the PDI had not recognized my Nabba wins, shit, I don't know.

Unfortunately, womens bodybuilding is even tougher, because there is less of a draw.

My advice? Don't look for a payday, do it for the love of it, or don't do it.

The NPC athletes make *far* more in model fees (at least on the women's side) than the pros do.  Everyone knows that modeling pays a lot better than winning contests...and there are far more losers than winners at each event.  

I understand your passion, Lisa, but the numbers aren't even close - the amateurs out-distance the pros' earnings by a very large margin.

Once the Olympics became a corporate whore-fest, amateurism - as we knew it - died. 

That's not necessarily a bad thing, though.  I miss the good ol' days, but do believe that those guys should be paid for what they do.  A guy working a 40-hour week at General Motors cannot become a world-class sprinter in his off hours. 

I still don't like seeing NBA and NHL people in the 'Olympics', but I'm cool with everyone else being a 'professional' in the Games.
