A few year's back, i used to work out at this community gym. This was a place where everyone was tight and it stand's out as being the best gym i've ever worked out in.They did'nt have a lot of equipment, but the people there were the best. I lost contact with a few of the guy's there and ever so often i wonder what those guy's are up to. Today i ran into one of the guy's from back in the day, he's homeless but he's still a fuckin' beast!! They had a  bench and strength contest at the center(most push-up's and most rep's with 225#}" Dana" came strolling by with his cart full of can's and wanted to enter but the security would'nt let him thru because of his obvious appearance. These kid's were talking mad shit about how no bum could ever beat them...go take a bath and all sort's of shit. One of the women at the booth remembered him and let him in. OH MY GOD.. why did they do that?!  This one dude they call "Push-up king", he's got record's for doing the most push-up's....got blasted!!! Some kid's that play for S.U.N.Y got blasted in the bench, Dana did 32 rep's easy!  I guess these cat's felt kind of humiliated and they challenged Dana to a deadlift contest. He did'nt win but he was impressive nontheless, he pulled 505#. Dude is fuckin' homeless, no nutrition,no resting no nothing! His diet consist's of  potato chip's and air straight up.I talked with him for awhile afterward's and asked him where doe's he train. Behind a piano store not to far from the center, he has these bucket's that was once filled with tar, now filled up with rock's  hooked up to a steel pole that he use's for benchin, curling etc;  a jump rope, and cinder block's that he use's for certain excercise's. For winning the strength contest they offered him a membership and he declined, he said that he like's his equipment better! Moral of the story...you never know who you're talkin' to, so keep your fucking trap shut! Go Dana Dane!!!! 8)

Was the membership free.  That would of been a nice place to shower, shave, shit and whatever you must have in-house for.  I guess the guy's left a little more than himself homeless.  He can only go up so who not take the membership, at least for the heated days and health facilities.

Homelessness is not a laughing matter but there have been a few homeless bodybuilders in Southern California over the past twenty years.

Anyone care to name a few of the better known guys who were in this situation?

Yea, Bigdumbell, you are right and I was wrong in suggesting that.

I am damn fortunate in that I never was in a situation where I didn't have a roof over my head except when I lived in a foxhole or was on a camping trip.

And I never did miss a meal that I can remember.

When I was a lot younger and had an after school job at the downtown post office I used to take part of my brown bag school lunch and offer it to any bum on the street who looked hungry (usually a P-nut butter and jelly sandwich and a half bag of potato chips).

One day one of the hungry looking guys asked me for a handout and I gave him the remainder of my lunch..... He took one look into the bag and asked me, "What the hell am I supposed to do with this!?" and tossed it back, so I went into McDonald's and got him a Happy Meal, but he threw that back too.

Dammmn. We can't judge them on that cause we don't know what might be going on with them but that is a nice gesture from your part.

You should have smacked him with that sandwich than pushed his shopping cart down a hill.  What an ingrate. :(

Another kind of related strory.

The was a young guy in my neighborhood who stood on the same cornor every day asking for handouts ... money. He worked the same cornor everyday for at least three years from early morning till late at nite, then he'd walk off into the dark someplace.

One afternoon we saw him getting into an expensive car that was driven by an unreal looking lady. A couple of weeks later the street cornor was empty and I learned that the "bum" was making over $200 a day simply bumming and he and that lady in the car were spending their honeymoorn at the Grand Wailea on Maui.

Never did see him after that.

My nephew and his wife are gymnasts and performed in a major show in Las Vegas for a couple of years and spent some vacation time in New York City. One sunny Sunday afternoon they went over to Central Park to practice some handstands and balancing and my nephew threw his baseball cap on the ground.

They practiced for about 45 minutes and when he picked up his hat there was over $200 in small change and dollar bills crammed inside.

I met a street performer once and invited him to perform his act (standing completely motionless as a chrome plated cowboy in a gunfight) in one of our contests. He would do it if we paid him what he would be losing by leaving his street position. He would have to charge us $700.

Not bad for a PFC in the Marines acting like a stationary cowboy after work.

Sorry, getting off the topic, but each of the above were bodybuilders.

Sarcasm, no lie bro. Even though Dana is homeless he has alway's worked out in one form or another. He's one of those cat's from around the way that was a high school and small college athlete who excelled at football, track and other shit.  I'm also inclined to believe that if he prepped for a few month's, dude would place  well in a local natural show. It's just funny when these young dude's started flappin' their gum's and got blasted by a dude they totally disregarded because of his appearance!

Stunt, true story? Sorry to ask or suggest otherwise...this was, and has been an 'urban legend' ever since cities have been around. Conan Doyle even has Sherlock investigate just such a thing. Maybe it is a life imitating art imitating life sort of thing.  ???
