Former quarterback Joe Theismann, who began his professional career with the Argonauts and later went on to star in the NFL with the Redskins, said he was "embarrassed right now to be a Toronto Argonaut" in an interview with ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd.

"I don't ever want to be mentioned in the same breath as Ricky Williams as a football player. He's a disgrace to the game. The man doesn't deserve to play football. He should go on with his life and treat his drug addictions or go do whatever he wants to do. He's been suspended from the National Football League on multiple occasions. Doesn't anybody have any class anywhere? For gosh sakes, let the kid go do what he wants to do. He doesn't want to play football,"

DO you think that its fair that Joe hates on Williams cause he is a weed head , but doesnt speak so forthright on his fellow teamates who use steroids...

What the fuck, Joe Theisman is an asshole. How can you talk down on somebody cause they smoke weed but then be cool with all the players using steroids and coke (which doesn't stay in you system long), i just don't like that fact that he singles out the one dude who openly admits to smoking weed and leaves everyone else out of it, it seems like he just wants a reason to not like Ricky.............. I heard a dude on ESPN radio yesterday talking about that shit and i wanted to strangle him

The dude was talkin shit saying "yeah sending him to canada is the same as telling him to go home cause we all know why he really wants to play there........" The guy was making him out to be a drug addict of all kinds and that he wanted to play in canada just for the cheap perscription drugs and leaneant weed laws even though he can be tested up to 10 TIMES a month

Basically i say if he doesn't miss practices and preforms at a all-pro level why hassle the shit out of him when there is bigger problems to worry about in the NFL.

Joe's a little over the top but his point's valid-I'm sure he'd feel the same about anyone sufficiently out-of-control to be busted multiple times, no matter what the drug.

funny thing is that Joe didn't seem to have a bad word to say about the guy who broke his leg and ended his career, Lawrence Taylor and LT was 50 times the drug user that Ricky is, monster hypocrisy.

Have you ever played a team sport? If so, what if a teammate flat-out quit on you, I guess it would be ok,huh? Ricky quit on the Dolphins in preseason, when they couldn't draft another RB to replace him and then continued to "quit" on them by failing numerous drug tests when he KNEW he was going to get caught/suspended. Joe might be an ass, but his problems didn't affect his play/teammates.

Finally some common sense. Williams is a friggin idiot who blew up the Dolphin's entire season-no one else mentioned here in comparison is close to that category. Anyone who understands that major difference understands that Theisman's point is valid, even if he was a little too vindictive in the way he said it. It's absolutely true that Williams FU their entire season! None of Theismann's team-mates or Taylor did that, completely different scale.

Whatever Theisman's done in his personal life, IMO he understands football better, and conveys that knowledge better, than most of the weak field of announcers.

i wouldn't care if ricky williams smoked pot if:
- he didn't talk about it all the fucking time, as if it's something to brag about. ha ha, i'm a millionaire who acts like a high school freshman!!yes!! what a fuck.
- it didn't actually fuck up his retarded brain, which it obviously did. do you people remember the shit he'd say on espn? it was embarassing. i felt bad for his mother.
- it wasn't a "performance suppresant" rather than "enhancer" like say steroids.

remember, steroids have always been associated with football. (anyone remember that footage of ohio state locker room with needles and shit on the bench from the 70's). potheads were kind of the antithesis of a football athlete.

so either way, ricky smoke your shit (trust me you're not the only one) but just shut the fuck up about it and don't come fucked up to work.

I really can't stand Theisman, but I agree with him on this one. Ricky quit on his teammates right AFTER the draft a couple years ago. You don't leave your boys in the trenches like that. He could have disclosed that he was a dope head and walked away before the draft.
