If I could use another analogy, I see the IFBB kind of like the WWE. Except maybe for the part where the WWE athletes are highly paid.
I see the PDI right now as a grassroots federation like TNA wrestling, full of young, hungry up-and-comers who probably work harder than the WWE superstars but aren't quite as big or recognized. But watch TNA sometime and those guys work their asses off and it's really much more entertaining!
Of course, time will tell how it all plays out but that's sort of how I envision it at this point.

In the US bodybuilding scene people are a bit blind about the larger world of bodybuilding. When it comes to international drug tested bodybuilding contests the US can't even compete against Slovakia, Egypt or Brazil.
Within the (non-drug-tested) professional scene the US is leading. The IFBB Pro shows in the US tend to favor US athletes. The NY Pro show was evidence for that. They attached the wrong country to Jaroslav Horvath and even placed Bill Willmore higher.
One can hope that the PDI will have a more balanced and more international field of competitors. The listing of competitors seems to confirm that:
Lee Priest (Australia) Charles Mario (Brazil) Andreas Frey (Germany) Vince Taylor (USA) Sami Al Haddad (Bahrain)
