« on: June 09, 2006, 09:43:02 AM »
i'm trying to find photos of aaron baker from the 1996 mr olympia. i have seen aaron in the battle for olympia 96, and i have never seen him as ripped as that. in 98, the battle for olympia showed him watered down...i was wondering if someone can post any pics if they have any. thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics but IMO baker was one of the most overlooked/underrated Pros out there. I think the WBF thing hurt him more than anyone else....

In the 94 Olympia Frank Zane says something like..."Aaron has one of the best packages, no flaws at all".

What Frank meant to say: "Aaron is hurted big time by politics"

This is wild, I just watched the tape last night.

As Arron, was walking off stage, he stopped and hit a leg bicep shot ( curling his leg up ) it was the shit. His calves floored me in that contest.

At the 1995 Mr O...Zane said that "if I was built like Baker I would win"

basically saying Baker had the build to win but not the personality or passion (lackluster posing)

Baker had semi weak quater turns in the first round.....did great in the muscularity rounds though

Baker looked shit at the 96 O. He looked AMAZING at every Ironman he competed in. I'm a huge fan but I found him a little obnoxious in the BFTO . . .

Onlyme said he's in Maui preparing for his comback - dude's like 46!

Aaron s living here in Hawaii (Maui) and doing great.  From what my partner says, he is looking as big as ever now.  He is training all the time and looking great.  I shoudl have some new pictures of him soon.  Here is one from about 6 months ago.  He is bigger now.

Give the man a cigar.  No WBF competitor had a chance.  They had to kiss Ol Joe's ass just to get back into the IFBB.  Let's hope the PDI doesn't go the same way.  I'll be at  any PDI show within 500 miles.  I wouldn't loose any work time and still be supporting a fledging organization, as we all should be.

I love that so many from the 90's seem to be making comebacks lately, even though i didn't follow BBing then i still like just the overall package many of them brought and love to see them show these young guns how it's done.

Your observation is very accurate - I too was literally rolling my eyes at Aaron's 'performance' in the BFTO. I mean, I know it was pre-contest and all, but I think he was being way over the top saying stuff like, "Why is the ceiling moving?"  ::) Robbie (Robinson), who was doing the same weights didn't scream and moan like Aaron was doing the whole time - Aaron could have learnt a thing or two from Robbie.

That being said, I think that Aaron was very similar to Ronnie - he had a lot of freaky bodyparts and was supposed to be quite strong with his lifts (I 'know' this through hearsay only). And just like Ronnie, Aaron was horrible at hitting poses and exerting muscle control. He never tensed his abs or posed to show off his strengths (of which he had several). His relaxing his abs during his routines and the mandatories probably cost him a few placings. I reckon he should have just stayed focused and improved ala Ronnie and he would have been given his due in time. Physiquewise, he could have gone to the top had he put it all together.

i think aaron baker was hyped to win but never won...baker was hyped and his arms r looking bigger cuz of the angel of the camera makes his arms look big...during that line up video of mr olympia 1996 he was not at all looking big..looked like a kid standing next 2 dillett...i guess he was way overrated rather than under-rated....he is smaller than alot of the big  guys..aaron sucked and he deserved his placings...

Aaron has to be one of the nicest people in bodybuilding, we used to train together in the late 80's at Golds Venice and during that whole time he didn't have anything negative to say about anyone...dude leads by example!

He looked real good in a now defunct all black (heavy hip-hop influenced) Pro-Wrestling league back in 2001-2002. He was bald, and talked like a gansta, ran a N.W.O. type group. He arms were bigger many of the women's waists that were on his arm.

His arms were sick, especially tris

That was BFTO 98, where he was doing skullcrushers, and I was in awe of his tris.
