HARD training and driving do not mix
« on: June 13, 2006, 12:01:11 AM »
I just finished back...heavy deads, pullovers, bar rows and some weighted chins. I felt totally assed out as any good workout should leave you. I was a lil dizzy goin down the stairs. Got in my car...chilled for 5, had my protein and started to drive home.  To say the least I think I would have been more 'able' to drive after 10 beers...No accident this time, but anyone else agree that one should chill b4 getting behind the wheel? Anyone had a near miss in a similar situation?

After training legs i have a hard time using the clutch in my car...my leg gets all shaky when i start to let the clutch out. i sometimes feel really run down and light headed after a serious deadlift workout, i usually just sit in the car with the a/c on full blast and drink a protein shake until i feel normal.

In all reality, carbs should be ingested before protein.  Until glycogen stores are replentished, and blood sugar levels increased, protein (IE: muscle) will be the preferred source of fuel.  So, in all reality, the protein you're drinking after a workout is doing nothing to stimulate protein synthesis.  It is just a shitty form of carbohydrate that your body has to conver to glucose.

My clutch in my truck is like a legpress to push down....I usually get my training partner to drive after ;)

Helps to take 5-20 minutes to recover first if needed, even a nap.

Yep , you nailed it. I drink my carbs and wait about 5-10 minutes before my whey protein.

As for the driving. Any workout has me pretty much drained but the worst is after doing calves. I drive home a few miles, then when I step out of the truck I get a brutal calf cramp as soon as my foot hits the ground. I have to collapse back into the car or I'll face plant the driveway.

Make sure you get back to normal before sitting down for the drive.  You wouldn't run 4 miles then just sit down either.
