y'know I thought the same thing, I really think the sport has digressed. Look at a guy like Ruhl, he's got a training article in this months Flex and they show him doing a front lat spread from when he placed 5th at the o a couple of years ago. Take a good look at this vid-where Samir didn't even place in the top 6-and compare it to Ruhl. No seperation on Ruhl as all compared to Samir....

theres a totally different judgin criteria now.

back in the 80s.. it was all about size WITH aesthetics, symnetry , proportion , DEFINITION .

now the judgin criteria is ALL OUT SIZE ... f'uck definition and proportion ...... thats why the vacuum mandatory was abandoned. the judges will overlook an obscene distended gut as long as the rest of carcass is humungous.

the athetes only present what the judges reward. its unfair to make comparisons between different eras.. the bodybuilders had different goals and ideals to chase.

I was just in another thread and was thinking damn it's been a long while since there was a top quality top 10 in an ifbb show other then maybe a few olympia's. $:-\$

He is a funny guy too. when I lived in Venice, he was one of my mentors. He was at my house and talked me into drinking a protein shake with protein powder, cooked steak, milk, yogurt, and tuna fish. He convinced me it would be great to grow, so I drank it, and subsequently threw up.......

I've been competing since 84 in the NPC and don't recall the "vacuum" ever being a mandatory. When are you talking about?

Saw him win the Pittsburgh Pro show back in 1990/91? He got little coverage of for that show, but he looked amazing. His sister used to be married to Lee Labrada. As I recall she was pretty hot.
