it seems that the campaigns were especially brutal this year.  There were some nasty mud slinging commercials being aired

Same thing different year, nobody spends money to say what they have done or will do just what the other person didn't do. Thats why at some point when we crash I look forward to the riots and politions (along with lawyers) being pulled out into the street and being beaten to death by mobs...can't wait..:)

Back in the Ducaucus (sp) era he was charge with letting go a guy from prision who was a rapist who raped again while out on furlo. Its the same shit every year.

And viewers could call into a special 1-800 number to vote which one they want to see the mob beat next, ...and the other guys have to watch, ...knowing their number is coming up soon.  As each week progresses the beatings gets more & more vicious, ...so it's just the mildly scummy & corrupt that get beaten first. The most treasonous, corrupt & impeachable mofo get saved for the finale where everyone gets to watch while his cloven hooves, horns, tail, and pitchfork is ripped from his body by the angry mob.

We could have a Canadian version where they get trampled by moose & elk...

It could be a real ratings grabber. AS, ...I think you're really onto something.  :D
