So where's the calorie surplus in Reeve's diet

Reeves didn't need a lot of calories to grow. Good for him. But, just because Reeves grew on 2400 calories and 215 grams of protein doesn't mean that everybody else can.

My point basically stands: Increase the calories, until you start growing. If 2400 can get the job done, so be it. But, if you're not growing on that amount of food, it is absolutely FOOLISH to keep eating that same amount, just because Reeves (or some other bodybuilder) did so with success.

That's one thing that Arnold Schwarzenegger stressed. Bodybuilders should find out what works for them and keep doing it and stop doing things that don't work. That's why he stopped making preacher curls the primary biceps exercise in his arm routine. If he had kept blindly doing so, simply because Larry Scott swole up his arms doing that exercise almost exclusively, he would not have had the success he did.

I know for a fact, there's NO WAY I'd grow eating that particular amount of food. I can't do it now, and I certainly couldn't have done so a decade ago, when it took FAR MORE calories than that to get me over 200 lbs.

Years back there was an article in MuscleMag on Reeve's training & nutrition philosophies which I found very interesting reading. That drink he made w/knox gelatin is, when you think of it a precursor to today's gatorade. He also had several ways of "tweaking" different exercises such as the db laterals pouring a glass of water, where the weight load should be optimally placed on flyes for chest etc.Tried them all myself & yup, the guy knew what he was doing.Wish I still had that issue.

As good as Reeves looked remember his best weight was 185.  He didn't need tons of calories to maintain that.  Also it was the 60's-70's and getting protein wasn't as easy as it is today.  Reeves had the perfect 18.  Neck, bi's and calf's all 18".  In his biography it says he didn't use juice till he was in Europe, retired from bodybuilding, making Hercules movies.  If He had the nutritional education that's come out in the last few years, I think his diet would of had a few tweaks.  Look at his supplement line.  JMHO and the protein in Knox gelatin is so incomplete, no nutritionist would count that as grs. of protein in his diet.

Reeves competed at 215lbs not 185.

Where did you come up with these bullshit values. How can you have 33.4 g of protein in an ounce when an ounce is 28g itself? Hmmm.

Also 33.4 g protein doesnt equate to 84 calories at all.

Ok, I just calculated the entire diet.

Calories: 2383
Protein:214 grams
Carbs:213 grams
Fat:75 grams

Not a damn thing wrong at all with this diet.

I also had no idea that Knox Gelatin Contained the Following Nutrient profile:

1 Ounce of this stuff looks like this:

Calories 84      ( Kilojoules 351 )

    % Daily
Value*
Total Fat 0 g 0%
   Saturated Fat 0 g 0%
Cholesterol 0 mg 0%
Sodium 0 mg 0%
Total Carbohydrates 0 g 0%
   Dietary Fiber 0 g 0%
   Sugars 0 g
Protein 33.4 g

you wrote this above didnt you. you acant get more grams of protein that are in an ounce. 33.4 x 4 cals per gram of protein = 133.6 calories.

and the gelatin is not complete protein
