it's killing me
« on: June 21, 2006, 11:56:43 PM »
i trained seriously, mostly natural, for 8 years. my body weight at best was around 270lbs. i've recently had an operation & been out of the gym for 2 months. i plan to return in a few weeks, but my weight has plummeted to less than 220lbs. can anyone give an idea how long it will take to get back to my best, if ever. (my operation was to repair a burst diaphram, both lungs punctured, ruptured spleen & swelling of the heart). unable to train & looking in the mirror is killing me. thank you

Were you in a car accident or something? Strengthwise, I would say maybe 6 months to a year, assuming you're able to train hard.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha

sounds like you had some real health problems, i hope you're ok and don't rush it getting back in shape, if it took 8 years to get to that point, without health problems, obviously it will take a little time to get back there, still there's such a thing as muscle memory so if you heal up ok it might not take too long but it's hard to make an estimate. i dont think you should rush things though, take your time and live one day at a time, work with doctors and specialists etc to make sure what you do is in line with their expertise and your previous injuries etc... you're comming of some serious injures there you need to be thankful the outcome wasn't worse... 220lbs isnt bad everything considered.

i was stabbed twice whilst being car-jacked. it was my own fault trying to act like a hero. the surgeon told me about 6 months minimum recovery was needed. so i'll go along with that. thanks

I think once you get back into the mix of things it will not take long.  Don't forget about muscle memory. Once you have it it is not hard to get it back.
Glad you are ok now.

Sweet Jesus. Slow down and thank your stars you are still among the living and take it easy. Forget about being your former 'superstar' self as fast as possible and ease back into the gym - and enjoy it, take pleasure in it. In time, you may even be better than before. Little steps. Big gains.  :)

you've hit the nail on the head. I thought i was invincible & had a real bouce in my step from all the comments i was getting from total strangers. The negative side to that was that the gym became my main priority, more so than my own family i'm ashamed to say. Reading these posts has re-affirmed me to take a step back & just enjoy it. All the iron in the gym will be there long after i'm dead, so there's no rush.

i've only had 2 w/outs & i can feel change already. but i'm unsure about whether there is such a thing as muscle memory. Have you or any1 you know experienced this...?

i think he will come back way better, just take the time to heal up and then work back into it. i had hernia surgery(that is nothing compared to what tt went through) and had to not train aikido or weights for 2 months.

What did you weigh prior to the incident?
My best weight was 275lbs, but not my heaviest. That was 280+lbs carrying a 38/40 inch waist. At 275, my waist was 30inches, but it gave the illusion of bigger shoulders. I was jabbing 2/3 shots of test + 2ml of deca a week at that time & training on a heap of ephidrine. My body weight now is 225lbs approx, lowest i've been in 6 years, also no soup in 9 months.
