Bid to bring bodybuiling to the world
« on: June 22, 2006, 05:40:01 PM »
If you all cared as much as a litlle bit about bodybuilding you would do this for the good of bodybuilding around the world.
I believe the olympia should be shown on espn for a world wide audience.
I believe if they made every competiotor into a character and had small interviews ect to show how they were as people it would draw a much large audience and people who don't even like bodybuilding will watch it so they suport one bodybuilder over the other because everyone knows theres rivalrys in bodybuilding and people love that.
Common sence must provale it would be huge e.g. world series poker (they created characters) Please support this for the sake of the sport.
I mean for fake sake they have spelling b's on espn.

So EMAIL ESPN at this site http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?page=contact/index

Oh stop it already. Have you ever shown a regular joe a picture or Yates or Coleman? Has a girl your porking ever looked at a picture of a true bodybuilder. Well everytime that happens they say one word two letters

EW!

Bodybuilding is to extreme for the mainstream. If you want to look like Ronnie Coleman or Ruhl you got issues. They are just to freaky. If the sport was like the 90s with guys like Haney winning shows then maybe. Just to freaky now in days. Never will be accepted. Now go be 16  drink beers, eat McDonald's,play sports, lift weights for fun and f**k girls instead of obsess over this fucked up sport!

Personally, I'd like see bbing on prime time. Its just not gonna happen. I guess you haven't noticed, but the is this HUGE steroid witch hunt going on right now.  Pro bbers, to the general public (whether right or wrong), are the biggest abusers.

I live in the real world. And this is reality.

Gord as much as you want to see bodybuilding go mainstream do you think the average person would look at Coleman in admiration like Arnold was looked at? Or in disgust as the sheer freakishness he has achieved?

It used to be on ESPN... "American Muscle" broadcast at 2am like once a month back in the early 90's. It got cancelled in favor of something that could bring in better ratings like ping-pong or checkers or something.

Well it used to be on espn they just didnt run it the right way. We have spelling b's, dog shows, and poker on espn why not bodybuilding all your responce indicate one thing to me your not willing to sacrifice 5 minutes of your time to send an email and this is the negative additude lots of bodybuilders have.

You are right. I don't care for the huge bastards of today. They are too big, and that is from someone who has watched bbing. Now, how does this kid think the general pop. found find these guys?

Ronnie Coleman is not exactly marketable. Sorry, but its true. And its not a racial thing either.

it could work......i know for a fact they actually do read and catalog everything sent in....so if enough emailed them they would definitely consider it.   also, while i understand the argument that the general public thinks bodybuilders are disgusting.....i do not think they would for so long...its all moral relativism.

back in the late 80's, early 90's bb'ing was on ESPN all the time, Lee Haney's show, Flex magazine workout, American Muscle Magazine, NPC Nationals, Bodyshaping, but when the freakshow came to town ESPN bailed.

But the point is people will watch wether they like there physques or not.
They have something  on at the momment like once a year called musclemania its natural bodybuilding and its not a show or anything they didnt highlight the competitors enough so therefore wasn't as exiting as it could be.

I've sacrificed more than 5 minutes for bbing. Its not about that. Re-read what I said. There is no demand for it. We (fans) are not exactly a large enough part the population to make it happen.

Yes those are more mainstream physiques. The only porblem with MM is alot of the guys are not natural and compete as nattys. sad really.

I can remember the first time I saw Yates hit a side chest as a young guy. I was freaked out by how gross it looked. At the time to me it looked like it was painful to stand due to his extreme condition.AT the time I could not understand why he would want to look like that. Then I got into working out for football and motocross and began to follow Arnold and such. Not till later did i find the condition appealing I once thought was gross.

I find alot of people make the statement when they see a really ripped guy "doesent that hurt"

What did you think the first time you saw a pro as a younger guy?

i remember when i first got into bb'ing at about age 19 or 20 i was up late one night and saw Flex Wheeler as an up and coming nationals level guy still in the NPC on American Muscle Magazine, he was doing cable curls and i couldn't believe the size of him but i'm sure if i saw that same clip now i wouldn't be nearly as surprised.

kids in spelling b's are smart, dogs are cute and poker is fun, kind of a stretch to compare these to bodybuilding, isn't it?
