Ramano on woman's bodybuilding
« on: June 30, 2006, 11:48:43 PM »
I have read and enjoyed many of Ramano's articles. He seems to really hit some good points on the future of female bodybuilding. I agree the sport is now featuring ladies that are too damn freakish except for a very small, insular group. The sad thing is I sincerely respect the female bodybuilders for working so hard to develop muscle size and diet to be ripped, etc. While I respect them as athletes I also don't find it attractive, but, feel that sexual attractiveness is no way to value a sport.
We can argue the drug issue in men's bodybuilding all we want, but when woman start looking like MEN, it just doesn't work and I agree with Ramano on this.I know the drug ssue being ok for men not for females reeks of a dbl standard, but the reality may demand it?? I would love to see the figure/fitness girls without the heels doing bodybuilding poses, that might be ideal?????

No. It's not double standard Howard.

If males inject male hormones you could protest against that.

And protest against women being on female hormone therapy.

But these "persons" are former females using MALE hormones changing their hormone profile, so they aren't women anymore.

Some of them would probably only need the surgery to complete the gender change.

Don't mix this up with being against the use of AAS. Has very little to do with that.

It's not a natural vs gear debate.

It's about the fact that a woman cannot have a hormone profile similar to a man.

Because then... Then it's a man baby!!!!

Bodybuilding is a sport that enhances masculine characteristics, strength and muscularity. It's normal that when pushed to the extreme, training and drugs gives women that kind of look. It's not sexually attractive to me, but as Howie said, that's not one of the criteria to evaluate a discipline.
So I don't find anything wrong with it as long as they love it.
I think there is space for everybody in this world... You don't like female bbers? Well, then look at fitness or figure competitions. There are also the so-called "natural" federations where women probably use AAS but have a less extreme muscularity.

I support female bodybuilding.

I don't support intergender bodybuilding. Easy as that.

It would be interesting to hear from some hardcore schmoes (no, not Tre) how much they think these persons are aware of the permanent changes they are doing to themselves.

The biggest enemies of these persons are those who day after day tell them that they look great, pay their hormone therapy and pay the worshipping and wrestling sessions.

I remember the part of Supersize She with Jon Thomas, where he just had placed low in the "Ms" Olympia. Instead of going back to UK and working as a nurse, he proceeded onto doing different photo sessions to pay for his charge at doing well at the "Ms" Olympia.

Such a sad scene.

Well, also those people who decide to change gender should be allowed to compete. I see no problem with them competing in a special division. Then of course, you can choose what to follow and support.

I don't know about you guys but it seems to me that a lot of these magazine writers are reading these boards and then rewriting our opinions for themselves to sell magazines ::)

I'm not going to ever think of a bodybuilding tranny as anything but  a freak show and most people will see it the same way.  That's like a guy walking around with huge boobs and a mustache and saying that he still looks macho when the truth is he'd look like a freak.  No man boobs and no bodybuilding trannies!  The world doesn't want any part of it!
