The coolest cat of them all was easily :

LEE MARVIN

Yeah, Marv was cool (as was Lee Van Cleef), and so were Charles Bronson (catch him before those silly Death Wish sequels when he was way into his 70s) and Toshiro Mifune. Bogie, Chuck Heston and Dave Niven are some other oldtime fav of mine.

NONE OF THOSE GUYS WILL EVER HAVE A STRIKING PRESENCE LIKE ARNOLD. LIKE A TRUE BODYBUILDER, ARNOLD'S PHYSIQUE WAS ALWAYS THE ATTENTION GRABBER. I DONT REALLY SEE ANYBODY OUTTHERE WITH A TRUE BODYBUILDING PHYSIQUE THAT CAN COMMAND THE SCREEN.

Clint was like 6'7". Vince Gironda said he had some of the best genetics of any man he ever saw.

I think everybody agrees that the stars from years gone by were men and these guys from today are just poseurs compared to them.

Weird. One of my pals at the gym just told me this only last month. He's a big Lee Marvin fan and apparently the headstone just reads pfc, etc. and not actor, etc. Poignant.

Just like they hamfist a romance story into every damn movie. You could single-handedly build a time machine, go back thousands of years and wrestle dinoasaurs, but when they make the movie of your life it'll be all about whichever whore you were banging that was the most publically known.

All these old guys from that era gave it all in the Pacific and in Europe in WWII. Ever read about how Ted Williams said the most important part of his life was his time flying bombers in WWII and Korea and not his baseball career? That had an impact on me.

Lee Van Cleef in For a Few Dollars More as Colonel Mortimer was absolutely mesmerising...every move, every squint....he, and not Clint, was THE man; it's just too bad that the execs didn't cast him in atypical "Unheavy". roles which weould have given him greater spotlight/stardom instead of silly "B' spaghetti/Westerns shot in Italy...as for Mifune and Kurosawa, the magnus opuses these 2 geniuses concocted would stir life even into a dead dog....

Uh, spaghetti westerns were shot in Spain. Italian backing but Spanish locations. And it was Leone, the director, who gave these rather quickie oaters the look/atmosphere they have.

/fyi: term is 'magnum opus' or greatest work/achievement, and is singular

What made my jaw drop is that is it often said of Teddy ballgame that even though he is probably the best hitter of all-time, he was still a better fighter pilot.
