I prefer using rest/pause type training. So for example on bench, using a board at the bottom (sinking in) then exploding it off your chest... I.e. using no momentum from the downward movement... Benching 405 wont do much for it unless you know when to use your power and can really apply it explosively.
I'm also a fan of some plyometic type drills, kettlebells and band training.
It is always interesting to see the newest "400 pound" bencher come into the club and get dominated position wise by a guy half his size. Mostly they don't come back, which is sad since if they learned to actually use their strength instead of completely relying on it... They'd probably end up doing a lot better.
