Off Day and Eating?
« on: July 19, 2006, 05:45:28 AM »
Ok, serious note : How many days a week do you take completely off from the gym?  The pro I'm training with for a show in 15 months has me training 5 days a week, with the 6th being a weak bodypart session only if he feels necessary.  No cardio, except this crazy glute ham stretch on the treadmill at 12% incline and 2.5 ramp...deep stretch.  I see many dudes train 6 days a week easily and then there are some that do something every day of the week....so help me out bros.....how many off days and on your totally off days do you take in very very little carbs?   That's the other thing.  He still has me slamming carbs in my first 4 meals, then my 2nd 4 meals are proteins and fats.   Why the hell do I need so many carbs when I'm sitting and being a lazy bum in the office all day?  Rationalize with me.  Tell me what I need to know!  Thanks!

You need carbs on your OFF days to help with better / quicker recovery.  I guarantee if you limited carbs on your off days you will be weaker in your next workout.  Say Sunday is an OFF day but monday is Legs...if you limited carbs all day on sunday, your Leg day will suffer.....heres what i do bro:

Training days:  carbs are 550-650 grams

OFF days:       mostly the same except i cut out all simple carbs (no PWO
shake)....i still get around 500grams even on OFF days

i know youve heard it countless times bro:  "you grow while out of the gym resting"...why would you limit nutrients at this time????  its all in your head bro, one day or two with rest + alotta good carbs will not make you into a blimp, its part of what you need to do to reach your goals, its all part of the plan

I think anyone wanting to really grow needs about 2.5-3grams of carbs per lb of bodyweight, granted everyone is different with different metabolic rates....however i think the minimum for anyone trying to bulk is 2grams per lb of bodyweight.....Carbs are anabolic and protein-sparing, they are an absolute MUST while bulking....good luck with your show prep and if i can ever help PM me!!!

The carbs that fuel your workout are generally those consumed in the 24hr period prior to the workout itself. If anything, nutrtion on off days is just as if not more important than "on" days for maximising your performance hence why youre slamming carbs on your off days.

I train five days straight...1=chest,2=back3=bi's and tri's,4=shoulders,5=legs...6=rest...  This works great for me and like everyone said it is much needed to have a good day of rest and a good amount of carbs consumed..  After havin a great week of workin out for a straight month...I took three days off from working out(against my will) and I kept a clean diet...well i lost 3 pounds but my arms grew a solid 3/8s of an inch and my pumps on my next workout were phenominal..

nice split...I like to break it up 2x a day, because I sit all day and that am pump is nice...plus it keeps me off the cardio machines!!!

My diet is pretty simple.. Muscle milk oatmeal in the morning and 8oz of fatfree yogurt with a half a scoop of designer whey in the yogurt.. I work out at least 2hours later...so 1 scoop of ON vanilla protein in water immediatly before workin out....with about 10 oz's of water mix with a carb gel packet during my workout....then immediatly after workout a protein shake (35g ABB) works fine...  bout 2 hours later ill have a turkey sandwich on some white bread with some cottage chees...2hours later will be dinner which is usually 6-8oz of grilled fish or chicken with some greens... and right before I go to bed I either eat some vitamin Shoppe pudding or ON Casien powder....usually i mix the two of them...

Stats...5'6"  156LBS 16" biceps....   no training at night once a day....earlier in the day
