A few rappers make a lot of money, the majority sell drugs to support their unsuccessful careers.
The fact that it sells many units only shows the ignorance of most people in our country. Look at the band Kiss for example, horrific musicians/songwriter good theatrical stage show, sold millions upon millions of albums. People are sheep and follow whatever is "hot" on the charts. There is no substance with 99% of rap tracks. A 1 or 2 bar loop that people swing their head to. Complete diots.
When all is said and done, most people with some kind of knowledge in music laugh at rap music.
