The Last Great Indian BB ???
« on: July 23, 2006, 05:52:51 PM »
I was watching the 1989 Mr. Olympia tape when I saw the brief posing routine of a unique bodybuilder. He was unique in that until him, I had not seen an Indian IFBB pro.

Premchand Degra, it turned out, was more than just a man with a catchy name. To my memory, he was the only pro of Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladesh ancestry.

Was Premchand the last, if not the only, great Indian bodybuilder?

you'd think that a country with over a billion people would have more than 1 IFBB pro.

certainly none come to mind, let alone any that competed in the Olympia

not that "Premchand Degra" isn't on the lips of every bb fan . . .

There are 2 videos of him somewhere on this site and I was very impressed! Good shape, symmetry, balance and size.
just push some weight!

Don't think bb is that popular in india mate.

Hell, even soccer isn't that big there.

Cricket is their passion.

dude i am from india..bodybuilding is the 'in'thing here..there r really big bodybuilders but the fact is although they r big but they look like little boys next to the IFBB pros..we do have alot talent in india but the fact is no one knowS much about extent of bodybuilding..they r not able to go beyond asia and because of the lack of interest from government and lack of knowledge they all r suffering..bodybuilding as a full time job in india is not possible..the salaries r too low, lack of nutrition, bodybuilding has no scope wat so ever here..the indian bodybuilders just get a petty salary a month wich is nothing if u convert them to american money..so basically we lack knowledge, back up,lack of scope and last but not the least poverty..these bodybuilders r just a little better than a construction worker..these bodybuilders work their asses off and still r poor..there r some indian bodybuilders who r working with the IFBB in order to increase the scope of bodybuilding in india.I HOPE IT HAPPENS

I would have to go with The Indian in the Cupboard. Definitely should have placed higher at the Nationals...
