Fructose and other thoughts.........
« on: July 25, 2006, 05:17:37 AM »
MY trainer told me to add in a banana first thing in the morning and remove the blueberris for a more caloric food and one that is needed first thing in the am to kickstart the body.

He also uses 8-10 rice cakes, or a few nutragrain bars, with his dext. and whey, oats shakes postworkout for the quick carbs.  His theory is that he doesnt care what I use as my carb source pw, as long as it's fast acting, and meets the requirements of 40g of protein, 80g of carbs.  Then an additional 80 in my 2nd pw meal, and cut back to 50 before bed.  Thoughts?

don't want to overanalyze, just a friendly debate.  Thoughts?

Well it does matter, IMO, what source of carbs you have post workout.  I would say that the oats, and rice would be fine but stay away from fructose(IMO one of the worst carbs you can eat, too low GI and does not effectivly replace muscle glycogen).

It is in addition to my whey and oats.....many reads claim it's excellent for muscle as well as brain function.  This is post am training, which is usually a small bodypart, so I dont take dextrose until after my pm session.......thoughts on adding this in?  Hell, some take a fruit and whey only postworkout...I realize it's stored in as liver glyogen, but would assume it's a better carb source for the muscles than most, including honey and sugar......

I know some recomend it, but I really do subscribe to John Parillo's theories on fructose.  The only fructose I consume comes from antioxidant containing berries.  I personally dont really like dextrose myself and my body seems to do better on maltodextrin.  Also I tend to put on BF really easily.  If you tend to be on the leaner side you might do better with fructose than I do.  As far as other sources of carbs raw honey is a very healthy natural sugar, also have you ever tried agave?

I have a banana each morning usually, esp on a training day....keeps me from cramping up during my workday and my workouts...i think bananas are great, high in potassium and a moderate glycemic carb!!!

I was wondering why people feared bananas and other fruits...I think they should be a staple....I train 2x a day m-f, so it would be in my first pw meal...

1 cup oats
1 banana
2 scoops blend
few egg whites
creatine, glutamine and some blueberries!!

a little fruit should be a staple except during the last few weeks b4 a contest but while bulking the extra carbs and cals are a definite plus, if i were you bro I'd add in a little more carbs in there bro:  i counted only around 77grams or so, id shoot for around 100grams (of course everyone is different and my body responds well to a higher carb diet than most)  however you are training 2 x day and quite frankly need all the freakin carbs you can get to fuel 2 a day training.
