For what a picture is worth I have seen him handling over 400 lbs raw. As to whether or not he could have done it I never saw it but it certainly is possible.

At the NFL combine? they were struggling to get 25-30 reps with 225. Maybe a select few. The rest would get buried.
the reality is that there are only a handful of men in the world who can bench 440 for 10 unequipped and NO ONE at the NFL combine could do it that's for damn sure.

I knew Surge personally and trained with him quite often in the early 90's. Although he preferred to train light, he was TREMENDOUSLY strong!I would challange his claims frequently. One day he took me up on my challenge and TOOK ME TO SCHOOL!!!!From that day on, I never doubted any of Surges strength claims. He is the real deal.

Surge came up and started swearing at me with his french accent, something like "You are not uh bodybuilda, such sloppy form, yada, yada, yada" I told him He trained like a girl with light weight and basically couldn't wipe my butt. He then said that I should do another set with as much weight as possible for as many reps as I could and he would do twice as many with the proper form. I laughed out loud and stacked the weight and started swinging. I can't remember how many I got, eight or so.Then he proceeded with PERFECT form to methodically do 16 reps SLOWLY without swinging. Shut me up real quick. He was 54 years old at the time, I was 19.
The strongest bencher I saw is this black dude who supplies the region in steroids.the guy is fucking huge, 5"10 260 really lean.I spotted him ( I didn't touch the bar ) while he was doing 4 plate and a half on each side for 4 reps with a 3-0-1 tempo !not that guy is on gh, IGF-1, lot of test and god know what else.anyway he is WAY bigger than Serge and had a fucking hard time doing those number.IMO, Serge is full of shit
