Coke/Pepsi Post Workout
« on: July 26, 2006, 05:53:52 AM »
Hey guys,

I'm thinking of changing up my post workout carbs and wanted to know what you thought about having pop post workout as a fast acting carb?  I read some time ago that Jay Cutler used to drink a litre or more of Coke post workout as his fast digesting carb source.  Anyone else try this?  What are your thoughts this - effective or ineffective?

While fast carbs are what you want post w/o, all sugars are not the same.I believe dextrose is the best at causing the desired insulin spike after a workout.Fructose is not as efficient at this,at least that is the way I understand it.

What about honey? thats what i use  ;D

The study involved a group of 39 weight-trained athletes, both male and female. Subjects underwent an intensive weight-lifting workout and then immediately consumed a protein supplement blended with either sugar, maltodextrin or honey as the carbohydrate source. The honey group maintained optimal blood sugar levels throughout the two hours following the workout. In addition, muscle recuperation and glycogen restoration (carbohydrates stored in muscle) was favorable in those individuals consuming the honey-protein combination.

alllll natural  ;)

Coke/Pepsi?  Why don't you add ring dings and you'll have yourself a real health plate going there.

I think the answer should be how big u r now

my answer would be : it can be

but my body tells me : it can't be
I will usually be hungry after exercise, so how can drinks stop my hunger? ::)

so if u r not hungry at all(after ur exercise), u can try it

the whole idea is to cause an insulin spike and replenish glycogen stores post workout.

Agreed, the body doesnt utilize fructose as efficiently as it does dextrose / maltrodextrin....all sugars are not created equal!  Dextrose and maltro are kings for PWO carbs and in my opinion a big key to growth!!
