Paul Dillette photos from 1991
« on: July 26, 2006, 08:11:11 AM »
I took these shots in Golds Gym, Venice in April 1991. Paul was a friendly guy in those days and I must say he looked unbeatable as a bodybuilder just walking around the gym. I posted these images at the Ironage forum but I thought many readers here might appreciate them. Paul told me not to publish them without his permission. I guess waiting 15 years is long enough.

First photo is Paul standing relaxed. I haven't seen anyone wider or more impressive just standing around.

Paul never won the Mr Canada title which is a pity. Here I am with Paul that day in 1991.

We all thought Paul would easily win Mr Olympia. He never did win that title or even come second.

Paul said he weighed about 290 when these photos were taken. He was huge!

How many competitors were there in the 1970 Mr. Canada?

Paul came to Australia in 1992 and while in Sydney posed at my gym and answered some questions. We couldn't see his legs because we had to go to the contest to see them. Paul had no idea how big Australia was and underestimated expenses, time, for travelling around giving exhibitions, etc., etc. So while in Sydney his attitude wasn't the best. We lost money on the 'seminar'. I wish more bodybuilders would go to college at least for a year so they have a clue about what a seminar is!

Interesting tidbit of information: Paul was also a favorite in the gay-4-pay network.

Critics say Paul had no back. Look at how big his lats look from the front. Massive. I think he had trouble posing his body to the best effect. I guess he felt he was the biggest and best and should have been given the winner's trophy. I can't argue with him there.

I will have to dig out the results and photos from the Mr Canada contest in May 1970. It was held in Vancouver, BC, for the first time. Lucky for me only Philipe Alfani was the only bodybuilder from Quebec. No one came from Ontario. So I won a watered down lineup for the Mr Canada. Ken Rivard came second, Alfani third, Walter Milner 4th, and John Mikl 5th. Every one of those place-getters eventually won Mr Canada except for Rivard who I don't think competed again. A pity because he was huge.

No I am not related to Franco except my dad came from Italy.

There was no drug testing in 1970. Paul got disqualified for testing positive for drugs in the Mr Canada when he competed.

Here I am with my trophies for Mr Canada and Mr Pacific Northwest. I came second in the arm wrestling. I won best poser and best legs. Rivard won best arms, chest, back and felt he should have won. Milner won best abs and most muscular. James Forsythe beat me in the arm wrestling. I think I lost too much weight for the contest. I doubt my condition would win a novice contest today!

Here is a recent shot with Roger Walker and Don Mahoney. Roger came 6th in the Olympia in Sydney in 1980.
