Vince Taylor: remember the patch at the Olympia?

Does anyone remember when Vince competed at the Olympia with a patch over his eye?
Mags reported some story about his overhead luggage falling and hitting him in the head.

Does anyone think he was just off and "looking for an excuse"?

I'm thinking on this now because of Taylor pulling out of the NOC, "with a contract" and all. Was ge off at that Olympia and just didn't want to breach his contract?

That show he didn't place as well as he had if memory serves me correctly. Remember, this guy was in 3rd at the 91 O.

there are photos of vince walking off the plane, smiling and laughing, looking fine.  later he detailed how a luggage strap hit his eye while on the plane.  who knows.

that was helsinki 92.  he took 6th i think.

Excuse from what? He competed anyway with that eye patch.

I think it happened on the bus from the airport

apparantly it hurt like hell every time he closed his eye - he couldn't sleep for a couple days because of the pain

Sometimes when a guy is off he will come up with an excuse, even if he is competing.

Even when guys are "on" but not good enough to win, you'll very rarely hear someone say, "Phil Heath is just a better bodybuilder than I am. The way they judge shows, I can't beat him."

Instead you hear, "I'm working on putting on more size while keeping my conditioning."

Yes Vince competed in Helsinki. But 6th? The man was coming off a 3rd from the year before and I remember some people saying the 6th was a gift.

Whatever the case, hats off to Vince for going ahead and competing with or without a legit injury.

I think it was 92 and Vince was the shit that year, he won everything he entered and everyone said the O was between him and Dorian.  He competed alot in the spring shows doing the Ironman, Arnold, San Jose-I think- and a few euro shows.   He didn't look nearly as good at the O.  Do I think he faked the injury?  Don't know but it seemed kinda convienient, don't cha think?

He also said in the 2001 or so Olympia that he had a sprained ankle and showed up with a hue bandage painted in his body spray on his ankle...apparently he ran around the house chasing a cat cause it was doing business in his lawn  ??? and slipped and fell, 2 weeks prior

Look at the first picture posted on this page. Then look at the top middle picture. Yep that's big Ron on the right looking really tiny. Of course that was about to change.

Oh he didnt place higher than kamali?

He does come in CRISP and dry, he has stayed in top shape for a long time. And has managed to keep his shape while getting bigger
