Brock Lesnar rumours and Pride Main Events 21/10/06
« on: July 28, 2006, 12:22:11 AM »
Theres a rumour going around that Brock is in training with the Miletich team for his proposed MMA debut! Hes big as fuck, has great strength and flexibility and can apparently kick the shit out of people when he needs to so this should be very interesting!

The Pride rumours are that the 2 headliners will be Fedor Emelianenko vs. Rulon Gardner and Kevin Randleman vs. Vitor Belfort, although Gardner reckons he'll not come back to MMA at all so it could still be bullshit

He's got all the tools; I'd like to see him step in the ring.

i wonder if being so big might limit him, however with those traps he might be able to take a punch. i would expect a bob sapp styloe of fighting with a little more grace

Brock has insane conditioning and ability for a 300lb guy, hes a freak. I think that if he is eased in against the right opposition then he'll do great. Maybe not against the likes of Fedor, Crocop etc but he should hold his own. I think he would kill Bob sapp

if Sapp even remotely knew how to fight, he would have smashed Nog into retirement when he dropped him on his head. Funnily enough, he ended up tapping!

Brock has insane conditioning and ability for a 300lb guy, hes a freak.

Those qualities plus his wrestling ability should make him a somewhat effective mma fighter. Don't know what his striking looks like.

I can just picture his fights. He goes in like a battering ram, and takes his opponent down. From there it's all ground and pound.

Fedor or Crocop would hurt him real bad.

I don't know if i would say wrestling didn't work....football, yes but wrestling?  He made lots of cash and was very very good in the ring.  That's hard to do.  Lots of college guys try to make that jump but only a few succeed..angle, lesnar...I guess benjamin, but not the same conection.

According to some of the lower level guys at miletich he looks pretty clueless when working the focus mitts and the heavy bags.  Plus, he would have to drop down to 265lbs if he wants to fight in the octagon.  Unless they plan on sending him to Japan for one of those freakshow matches, I don't see him fighting anytime soon.

It's his wrestling background that I'm hoping makes him a legit competitor; he probably doesn't have any real stand up training prior to this.  He's looking pretty juiced in that pic, so I'm also curious what he'd look like if he has to pass the test...

I don't see why he couldn't succeed in MMA I mean we know he's a legit All-American Division 1 wrestler. He's freakishly strong and fast for his size evidenced by almost making it to the NFL on the defensive line. He would most likely have to drop some weight but the UFC heavyweight division is very thin right now so if he ever had a chance it would be now. He would also be good for the money aspect of fighting because he has a big name and they could play off the WWF/UFC feud.

what exactly cost him his chance with the NFL? i heard he was pretty good but im not exactly an expert in the sport as im English. Is defensive line an elite area or something?

He's very good it's just such a competitive league that he didn't make the cut. I think he would have easily been an NFL player if he had played football throughout high school and college. He chose wrestling so he never got to practice and learn all the tricks of the trade so to speak.

My guess is that he would look like everyone else that has to pass a test....NO DIFFERENT.

he had a low football IQ.  he looked a little lost on the field.  he could have done well in football if he had played in college etc.  he's a big man, but in the NFL he was average size and not able to physically dominate people.  it will be years before he could fight in big time MMA, just doesn't have the stand up game or the jj skills.  but it would be great to see him in a fight, just out of curiousity.
two thumbs WAY up!!!

Not for nothing, but a great athlete that's fights can train themselves to fight in MMA pretty quickly.  Of course some will always do better, but I don't think it would take a guy his size (if he can fight well), with his wrestling backround to long to start getting fights.  Look at Rulon Grdner (sp)...he fought very quickly.  Phil Baroni and I go back 15 years or so.  He was a great wrestler, real tough street fighter and then started taken some kick boxing with a guy from the gym.  He entered, for fun, into toughman stuff, eventually got into legit kick boxing..where he would mostly box, then got into MMA and to UFC realatively quickly once he started.  It can be done, but ya gotta be tough.

If Baroni spent more time on his fighting than trying to look like a bodybuilder he might get somewhere. As it is hes a 2nd rate fighter in the pros

Believe me when I tell you he doesn't train like a BB and hasn't for years...that's from strength training...he was 220 at his biggest, that's a far cry from 180 or so he is now.  He trains very hard and puts everything into his fight game.  It's a competitive game and just the fact that you and everyone knopws him means he's doing something right.  Everyone is gonna lose, BUT how many will get back on their feet to fight again?  Not many.  Ask Dave Menne if he's second rate.  Minowa..they are 1-1...We'll see what the future brings to him but one thing is certain, he's training hard.  Do you fight?  I BB and wrestle but grew up going to the boxing gym with my brother who fights.  Very VERY tough game...get your face smashed till it resembles a catchers mitt then come back tomorrow and see what ya got.

I have 3 Muay Thai wins out of 3 fights, although it wasnt anything special - an annual promotional contest between 2 clubs. I used to get beaten down every day by bullies, for years i had the shit beaten out of me so i know how it feels to have the shit knocked out of you day after day. One day i decided to fight back and i havent lost a fight since. I train just as hard as the next guy, and im still pretty ha ha ha.

My problem with Baroni is that he cares more about how he looks, and his ego is unrivalled. He went through a patch where he just couldnt win and still thought he was the hardest girl in the world. He may have heavy hands but that means fuck all when youre on your back and someone is punching the shit out of you.

Good for you...that's pretty good because as you know it's a lot different than it looks.  Speaking of which those accurate Rutten leg kicks had some snap to em.  Phil does got some arrogance to him, but he aint a bad guy.  He's actually easy to get along with and has GREAT respect for fighters.  Anyway, I do think that someone with lesnars athletic ability and scrappy attitude can learn some skills pretty quickly....will they be the best, no but his strength and wrestling ability will help him out.
