Whats the deal with Niacin??
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:51:08 AM »
I have an unopened bottle of niacin and I am debating weather or not to use it.....

Is it true that taking it will make you more vascular ?

And if so how much should one take ?

Save the bottle and eat some TOTAL cereal . You'd have to take 40 tablets to get the same amount of Niacin that is in a bowl of Total.....

Back in the early days, a competitor would sip red wine and take a niacin every 1/2 hour before getting on stage.  It was supposed to make you more vascular, but most competitors came on stage a little tipsy.  It stooped for the most part, but once in a while. at a local show some guru will have some newbie using it.

it is a B vitamin (B3) it helps to regulate blood lipid profile  It is also is used to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Specifically it reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and increases good cholesterol  (HDL). It is not clear how niacin causes its effects on cholesterol and triglyceride levels, but it may be by reducing the production of proteins that transport cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.

Niacin is available in immediate and slow-release forms (Niaspan, Slo-Niacin). Natural sources of niacin include meat, poultry, liver, fish, nuts, green vegetables, whole grains and potatoes.

they sell it in a no-flush form....usually any dose over 250mg will cause flushing

yea...the old timers thought it increases vascularity and color before stage

well said here, yup, it can increase vascularity but also makes on red and very itchy. Be careful , it can be annoying if ya go overboard but hardly dangerous. I sometimes had stomach pains briefly if I did too much back in the day.

Use it for improving cholesterol.  The non-flush product is great.  800-1000mg per day.
It mainly causes flushing at the capillary level so you get very red if your not acclaimated to it.  Not good for vascularity on stage of the large veins.

Take the whole bottle at one time.
