Fainting on overhead lifts?
« on: August 21, 2006, 10:34:03 PM »
I've noticed lately that I have a tendency to faint/blackout when doing any kind of heavy overhead presses. I just start feeling extremely light-headed and dizzy in the middle of a hard set. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what have you done to prevent it?
hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Most likely you're keeping the valsalva pressure ( gut pressure) too long.

Release it once in awhile and reapply it, learn how to semi-release it too.

That would be my best, since valsalva stocks the bloods circulation.

I get this same faint feeling whenever I do front squats or log presses. I just try to breath and get through the lift quick and easy, its just one of those things that comes along with heavy lifting.

I just started a 12 week course with a Physio.  When I mentioned (due to a prescribed drug) I have high BP, his immediate reaction was - 'We will be avoiding over-head lifts and presses'.  Check your BP.  It's treatable.

I've never had high blood pressure. I recently had it checked, and it is definitely in the normal range.

It happens the same with me. I try to breed properly for about 4-5 secs after the excentric movement and it has been working fine.
