Is this how competition deads are done?
« on: August 25, 2006, 08:14:40 AM »
Evening chaps, browsing vids on youtube for interesting lifts (thinly veiled masturbatory research for the ones looking for something super super interesting to say).  When I discover this fellow.

Question, is this a generally accepted technique for competition deadlifts?  Guy seems super strong but isn't what he's doing essentially reducing the lift to about 1/3 rep lockout?  I thought strength comps were generally about full range

It's a sumo style deadlift and they count.

Why does he walk like he shit in his singlet?

cause it isn;t a singlet   it's a squat suit  so  he can pull more weight
damn thing is so tight  he is walking funny

the only thing that makes that impressive is that  he has mastered the art of his form and that suit to move that much weight

How about the fact he pulling 830 fucking lbs!!!  The suit doesn't make a huge difference in deadlifting.  The man literally RIPPED that from the floor!

As to the ROM, yes, sumo style is allowed in competition and some people can pull more that style while others pull more standard style.

The sumo deadlift on average makes the lift 10-15% shorter.

The Finns are the greatest sumo lifters in the world, and with correct technique, you'll incorporate the legs to a bigger degree.

You'll see many more sumo deadlifts failing at the lockout, as that position becomes much weaker than in a regular deadlift.

Cool, thanks for that info.

The other thing that is impressive is he's 19 isn't he?
