New standards for female bodybuilding.

The more I look at female bodybuilders at the Olympia, for example, the more it just seems bizarre. I am commenting from a general appearance point of view and the condition that is 'required' to win those contests the women have to lose too much bodyfat and also lose much of the amazing shape the females have. In other words, they reduce down too much and end up looking rather worse for the trouble. I don't have to point out how old most of these women look. Some might suggest they look manly. When they have breast implants that silicone stands out for everyone to see and it makes the appearance false and freakish.

Two things that might help change this situation is to have rigid drug testing and ban any implants, including boob jobs. Only then will it return to where the women looked great and not freakish. Now, I don't want to be seen as bashing the women and I do congratulate those who trained hard and got good results. However, I wonder if the result has been worth the trouble? Messing with male hormones surely is something only grandmothers on hormone replacement therapy should even consider. Even older women have to be careful with testosterone because if they take too much they can get side effects such as facial hair. What improves is their libido which is important to many women.

If we could come up with criteria that rewards the overall shape of bodybuilders then that would be a good start. What happens nowadays is that the judges place way too much importance on definition. The result is the women come in looking lean and ripped but look terrible for it. I would say that 50% of the weighting be awarded to overall appearance then 25% for size and 25% for definition. We might have a chance at admiring those women instead of shaking our heads at the way they look in contests. Those fake boob jobs really spoil it for me.

Have a look at Palumbo's site to see what I mean. He has a good site, by the way.
