I don't think the deadlift is an exercise that lends itself to higher reps unless you are performing the stiff-legged variety (SLDL).  If you are performing standard deads I think it best to stick with 1-3 reps.  When performing a maximum or near-maximum lift I will hold my breath during the concentric or eccentric portion of the movement.  I firmly believe in letting the body's own natural breathing mechanism do its thing when training with weights.

Mason, you're seriously strong.

But what is the difference between your SLDL's and regular DL's?

I ask this, because when watching you perform the lift at higher weights in clips, it looks pretty much like a regular deadlift to me.

Leg drive.  When I do the stiffs even at heavier loads I try not to use quad drive to get the lift while when I perform standard deads I obviously push with the quads as much as possible.  When I do SLDLs heavy I need to bend my legs a bit in order to protect my lower back but again, I try not to use quad drive.

I don't usually do more than 3 for work sets.  I also hold my breath during the lift portion (therein lies the problem I think - despite it feeling natural).

Ever since I've been deep squatting during the week (on a different day) my deadlift has suffered.

Alex. A question.
Why you step back showing a calf when you hit double bis? Are there any judges behind your back?

Why you step forward showing a calf when you hit double bis? Are there any judges behind your back?

Chris requested front double bi and back lat spread mandatory poses.

Well you didnt understand me...
You dont need to step back when you hit double bi front. Got it?
You dont need to show your calf to your back audience(Maybe sofa?) right?
