Whats your favorite ERA in Bodybuilding ?
« on: September 12, 2006, 12:37:11 PM »
I prefer the 90s when there was Dorian, Levrone, Wheeler, Ray, Cormier, Nassar, Fux and those types. Alot of the people now could not imagine placing in the top ten in those contest. Why is that ?

I would have to agree with the 90's....Bodybuilding was much more conditioned then....Hopefully it is heading back that way....

i like the golden age (70's) only because their bodies seem to be much more attainable to the serious but not pro bodybuilder. Not dry to the bone. Just big and cut. Now they are HUGE and SHREEDED. Also it looked like they got along better back then. Throw in the huge supplement endorsements and the sport has become extremely cut-throat.

During the 90's any of 8 people could have one the O. There could be an argument made for all of them during the 90's. Ray, Wheeler, Lavrone, Comier, Quiet storm, nassir, big pual and more...Now it just dont seem that deep no more. 1-4 ok....but there is a big drop off when you go beyond 4th place in todays shows.

I always liked the bbdr's of the eighties. They were big but they did not sacrafice their shape. Lee Haney, Jim Quinn, Mike Quinn, Mike Christian all looked great.

I wish I can go back just a few years when ephedra was available in every gas station and corner grocery store...now I have to make my calls, leave text messages and pay triple what I used to pay to get it. Also...1-test products were fun to!

Blockhead,

SO true! If some girls playing soccer did not ingest six hydroxycuts before a big game, none of this would have never happen.

I get what you are saying if you are speaking for the depth of of quality athletes. The 1990's cant be touched. But in looking at the factors that contributed to bodybuilding as a sport. It had to be the 1970's. I look at it like this. The standard for modern bodybuilding was set in the 1970's. The athletes during the 60's and 70's were better for the sport to me also. Thats why they were seen outside the arena of bodybuilding back then (arnold, big lou, blond bomber etc). Also...check it out...do you think another pumbing iron can be made now...I just think the sport was more pure then.

The reason why you saw more of a diverse audience supporting bodybuilding back in the 60's, 70's and early 80's is because the bodies were very muscular but not overly muscled like today.  People could relate to them easier cause their look was actually obtainable.  Nowadays the public knows that the bodies of the BB's today are not obtainable without huge amounts of drugs and the general public is allot smarter than BB's and would not jeopardize their lives to get allot muscle.  Plus the bodies of today are just stupid looking compared to back in the 70's and 80's.  The bodies back then looked healthy, the bodies of today do not look healthy and are actually not healthy.

Yeah. I wish Zanes physique was in. If it were i think it could serve as motivation for many people to get involved in bb'ing. But people like myself know i wont be able to bake it big without puttingmy health at risk.
