So I was wonder about Flex Wheeler's BF prior to the 93 O'
« on: September 13, 2006, 10:47:38 PM »
Is there a reason that it's inappropriate to ask whether it's true that during the telecast of the 93' O Jim Quinn reported that in the days leading up to the contest Billy Smith gave Flex Wheeler a skin caliper test at Golds Gym and he measured 0.0% BF, the lowest reading ever recorded at that time.

interesting argument BUT during the telecast of the 93' O Jim Quinn reported that in the days leading up to the contest Billy Smith gave Flex Wheeler a skin caliper test at Golds Gym and he measured 0.0% BF, the lowest reading ever recorded at that time.

Obviously, that was wrong. I think the lowest body fat measurement that a skin caliper has measured was 1.1%, according to various people.  But you already know the answer to your question, you are just being irritating. Was Quinn being 100% serious, or just hyping up the fact that Flex was in such great conditioning, and with an excellent physique that it should of measured 0.0.

Better yet, Quinn should of measured it with a negative, as everytime he walked, perhaps some fat that just brewed up would fly off or so...

FLEX had incredible conditioning he didn't just cut water he burned off all of the fat.  Very long periods spent in a caloric deficit.  That's why I can believe that during the telecast of the 93' O Jim Quinn reported that in the days leading up to the contest Billy Smith gave Flex Wheeler a skin caliper test at Golds Gym and he measured 0.0% BF, the lowest reading ever recorded at that time.  Sure he probably had some visceral fat, but otherwise he'd be dead.

Its anatomically impossible to have 0% bodyfat try 2 to 3% sounds more realistic, Just because some one says it true means shit.5 years back i got my bodyfat to 5% and was measured by three people at university with callipers. At that bodyfat training became torture i was constantly getting colds and viruses sure i looked good but i could only do so much in the gym.If your not competing the lowest i would reccomend would be 8 to 10% bodyfat.

Calipers only measure subcutaneous fat.  and it is possible to lose all of that and still maintain the visceral fat that is necessary to sustain life.  SO I don't see why a caliper reading of 0.0 would be impossible.  I heard that it actually happened back in 93?  I'm looking into that now.

My understanding is all fat including visceral fat dissapates simutanously

The rate of dissipation differs depending on environment and genetic propensity.  Conditions like lipid-dystropy can have an effect to.  I'm guessing Flex burned subcutaneous fat prefferentially, at least back in 93 from what Jim Quinn said.
